Owlclaw padded through the forest, his feet moving silently in the early morning air. It was newleaf meaning that prey would be stirring early in an attempt to get back some of their lost weight. Sure the fresh kill would be a little underwent but it would feed some of the cats in the clan nonetheless. He opened his mouth to sniff the air, it was prey heavy even this early. There was no way he would go back to the clan with a empty paws. The fresh kill pile would be full before the rest of the clan was even awake. Well, maybe not that much but still, there could be.more focus on training rather than hunting if the clan had enough food. A stirring of movement beside him and he knew there was prey abound. Crouching down he crept forward slowly, light on his feet and his tail low he swiped the mouse up in the air, jumping after it and killing it before it hit the ground. Life was good for now. He landed gently on the ground and buried the mouse so he could pick it up later.

Silently the blue eyed, black pelted she-cat watched as her fellow clan mate scored a nice mouse to add to the fresh kill pile. "Good catch Owlclaw," she meowed in a soft voice as she padded out of a patch of bramble bushes. A gentle smile spread across her face. It was nice knowing that someone else was a early hunter like herself. Her nose twitched as she took in a deep breath of the new leaf's cool air. The smell of prey was something she never felt so excited to smell but after the hardships Owlclaw and the rest of the clan that had survived the journey knew the true meaning of an empty stomach, something that the new generations to come would possibly never knew. "Although I miss the old forest I'm happy to be here, for the new start and knowing that our bellies will no longer be empty." She looked towards the sky briefly as a bird shuffled out onto a branch. Her whiskers quivered, it was tempting to run up the tree and try to catch it but she knew there was no chance in that. Then quickly she heard the scuttling of a small creature not far off from where they stood. Silently she lowered herself towards the ground, distributed her weight evenly and pointed her tail. Slowly she stalked towards a shrew. Just a bit closer she thought silently and then when she felt she was close enough she launched forwards. Her paws landed square on the small creatures back and just to make sure the creature was dead, she nipped on the back of its neck. Afterward she picked up the limp body and stashed it safely in between two roots.

Owlclaw was happily twitching his tail at the fact that he thought himself to be one of the clans best hunters when a familiar feminine voice called out to him. What was Ravenstar doing out here so early? Well it was pretty obvious what she was doing but why was she in this particular part of the territory now? Not that it was a bad thing but it wasn't exactly a good thing even though it was. He'd take the pretty she-cats company over just about anyone's. The again she was the leader of the thunderclan and he was just a regular hunter. His tail twitched even.more furiously as he realized that she knew his name, well of course she dis she was the clan leader but to put his name to his face was incredible considering he wasn't exactly important. "Morning Ravenstar. You look like you slept well. Probably because of all the fresh kill we can eat now. I'm glad that as many of us actually made it here. A lot of the other clans weren't so lucky." he watched as she hunted, almost sort of staring at her. Realizing that he was staring he turned.his attention to a bluejay fluttering on a bush and stalked up to it, using his powerful legs to propel him into the air and onto the bird. The both dropped to the floor of the forest. "So Ravenstar, what are you doing out this early?"

Ravenstar silently turned to look at Owlclaw and caught him jumping towards a blue jay. Amazing she thought casually as he caught the bird. Her whiskers quivered as she stretched her legs. "I suppose I slept well and probably the best I've slept I've gotten since we've found this place. That journey was hard on all and I'm just glad we have most of our warriors because peace between the clans won't last forever." Her voice was calm as she spoke and she flicked her tail lightly towards her hidden stash of prey. "Might as well get a head start in hunting specially since its such a nice day. I honestly didn't expect to see anyone else out here. What brings you out here at this time of day Owlclaw?" She all ready assumed he would say 'same as you' or 'couldn't sleep,' the typical answers she'd get when ever she ran into her clan mates at a weird time of day.

Owlclaw wasn't really surprised about Ravenstar coming out this early just to get some hunting done, after all she was amazing. Despite the strange circumstances of her becoming leader even she was still the best one they could have hoped for in this situation. His tail perked up as she asked him why he was out there. He wondered if he told the truth it would sound silly. "This one of my favorite times of day. Its peaceful and there usually isn't anyone else out meaning I can think while I hunt. Sometimes I think aloud and it gets me in trouble though... You've caught a bunch of fresh kill already this morning, doesn't look like anyone is going hungry today." He sat down and licked his shoulder a few times nervously. He was babbling like an idiot but how would Ravenstar know anus different from his normal behavior.

Ravenstar couldn't help but smile at the tom's constant rambling. "This is a lovely time of day indeed and I'm thankful that not to many get up this time. Mostly because this is my thinking time and it allows me to be free from the judging eyes of den mates." she stated lightly. "And yes nobody will be going to bed hungry tonight, hopefully never again." Her blue eyes searched the foliage for prey but nothing caught her eye. Slowly she walked about sniffing around for fresh tracks. Many of the creatures seemed to cross through this forest and so many of their paths intersected somewhere at some point in time. Interesting she thought and made a mental note of a good place to hunt. Then something moved in the corner of her eye and she quickly jerked her head to catch what it was. A squirrel was picking up an acorn and quickly planned her angle of attack. Quietly she turned around and slowly started her hunt but the squirrel was all ready running up an oak tree. In a flash Ravenstar made a bolt towards the tree and quickly picked her way through branches. The squirrel disappeared into an abandoned woodpecker den. The black pelted she-cat let out an annoyed hiss as she perched herself on a nearby branch. If she reached in she surrey could be bitten and she had no idea if there was more than one squirrel. Softly she cursed to herself. The squirrel had won this time but next time it wouldn't be so lucky. Slowly Ravenstar picked her way down the oak and then jumped when she was just tail lengths from the ground.

Owlclaw gave a small nod in agreement. A lot of the clan was upset that an outsider in this trial. He didn't mind though, sometimes an outside voice was a good thing. Then again ot had been a long time since the She-cat had been an outsider. Anyone that still thought she was was mouse brained. He watched as she chased a squirrel, it was one of the fast ones though. Any cat could and probably would have missed it. Including himself. He watched as the black petted She-cat made her way to the ground, looking like midnight itself. His tail twitched anxiously. This was the longest amount of time he had spent with her. He wasn't expecting any great friendship to blossom from it or starclan forbid a romance.but the dream was always there. "It was a scrawny one anyways. Give it a few days and it'll be so plump a kit could catch it."

Ravenstar glanced over her shoulder at her clan mate. "I suppose but I had it cornered, I just didn't want to get bitten and even if it was scrawny prey is prey." Slowly she let her gaze slide back towards the tree. Just barely could she see the squirrel's brown head appear from its den. Her tail flicked in annoyance. It was as if the squirrel was taunting her and a low growl slowly escaped her chest. "Stupid squirrel." she muttered and turned away from the oak. Her eyes scanning for something else to chase down and get her mind off her lost catch. Quickly she jumped off the ground with a light yowl. She quickly bolted forwards and away from the ant hill she had been standing on. Her ears flattened in embarrassment and she shuffled her paws on the ground after shaking her paw. "I guess that's why I don't stand still for long." Then curiously she looked towards Owlclaw.

Owlclaw felt the bite in his leaders words. It was true that all fresh kill was always needed but he had just been trying to lighten the mood a little. He shrank back a little. It was true that the squirrel did sound good right now, having only eaten mice lately. There was something about.them that just made them taste good. Suddenly she jumped up from where she was sitting and howled a little. Had she sat on something sharp or hurt something whenever she landed on the ground. Jumping to his paws he was at her side in a moment. "Are you okay?" It was then that he noticed that it was just an ant hill and felt a little embarrassed.

"Ants don't take it lightly when you stand on their colony." Her eyes shifted to the ground to ashamed to make eye contact. Then gently she lifted her paw to examine it. All ready small, red bites were forming but camoflauged by her black pelt. The bites were only noticable if someone was really searching her leg for something. "I'm fine. Thank you for asking Owlclaw." She smiled gently as she lifted her head a bit. It was nice to know that someone could look past the fact that she wasn't clan born and care whether or not she was hurt. Her whiskers quivered as she set her paw down as she spotted a mouse. Despite her hatered toward the thought of eating another mouse for a mean, she quickly chased after it. Her claws sinking into the creatures furless tail. Quickly she nipped at it's neck and watched its body go limp. She sighed and mummbled a quick thanks to Starclan for the creatures lost life.

Owlclaw was relieved that he didn't get another tongue lashing from the she-cat over his concern for her. Most of the female warriors got upset when you shower any sign of concern over their well being. They just misunderstood him most of the time was all. He gave a quick nod and backed away a little, not wanting to crowd her anymore than he had to. Being around females made him a little nervous. Once again another mouse was brough down. Seemed as though.that was all the thunderclan had right now. But then he scented something different, something delicious. His legs bunched and he lunged forward into a bush. Happily he left ot though dragging a very unlucky rabbit.

"Finally! Something other than a mouse." Her blue eyes flickered with joy as the warrior dragged with him a rabbit. The tip of her tail twitched gently back and forth as she sniffed the air. She heard something drop onto the ground just mouse lengths away from her. Squirrel! A small scowl spread across her face as she watched an 'old foe' freeze in-front of her before grabbing an acorn. The brown pelted creature started bashing the hard protected nut against the twisting tree roots and nibbling on the surface. Instincts took over as she dropped down into the well known hunters crouch and stalked slowly towards her prey. She bit on her bottom lip as a dried leaf from leaf-bare crackled under her weight. Timidly she watched as the squirrel froze once more and looked around before quickly going back to cracking open the acorn. To hungry to care, she thought, so maybe that means food is hard to find here during the harsher seasons. Quickly she made her move and pounced, gentle paws landing on the creature. In one swift motion she nipped the back of its neck before moving away. Who said the third time was the charm?

i will follow you into the dark Owlclaw ` Warrior ` Thunderclan Owlclaw watched as his leaders hunting skill made his own look paltry. He felt his stomach rumble as she took down the seemingly oblivious prey. It seemed like it was more worried about its food source rather than its life. His mouth watered though as he set the rabbit down. "Now we know why that other squirrel was so skinny. This fatty was eating all the food. Congratulations Ravenstar you have saved the rest of the squirrel population from starving." The tom meant it as a joke, then again he sounded as he always did.

Ravenstar's ear flicked in amusement. This warrior had something to say about everything and she certainly couldn't help but chuckle at his last comment. "Maybe the squirrels will start bowing at my paws and then Thunderclan will feast for moons." There was a gentle smile on her face as she stretched out her legs. "Do you think we should head back to camp before everyone else starts waking up?" Her blue eyes flickered towards the warrior with her head tilted gently to the right. For some odd reason she still didn't feel comfortable walking back into the camp in the early morning with anyone, but certainly not a tom. Just something no one ever saw and she planned on keeping it that way for a while that is.

i will follow you into the dark Owlclaw ` Warrior ` Thunderclan Owlclaw yawned and flicked his ear at his leader. She was already talking about going back to camp. She certainly didn't want people to know they had been hunting together from the sound of it. Then again she probably didn't want it to seem to the clan that she was interested in any cat in particular. No need to start any rumors that the leader might be taking a mate, especialy since the tom happened to be him. "It's ever so shameful to be seen hunting with a lowley tom such as me.oh great and beautiful Ravenstar? Very well then, the thunderclan Wilkinson eat well this.morning nonetheless."
